WaterTower Theatre Sets Directors for 2014-15 Season

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced the directors for the remainder of the Company's 2014-2015 Main Stage season at the Addison Theatre Centre. Directing the season opener, Bonnie & Clyde (October 10-November 2, 2014) is René Moreno. The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical (December 5, 2014 - January 4, 2015) will be directed by James Lemons. The Explorers Club (January 16-February 8, 2015) will be directed by Jim Covalt. All My Sons (April 17-May10, 2015) will be directed by Tre Garrett and will star Terry Martin as Joe Keller. Manicures & Monuments (June 5-28, 2015) will be directed by Susan Sargeant, and Sweet Charity (July 24-August 16, 2015) will be directed by Michael Serrecchia. Both Sargeant and Garrett are 2014 Dallas Fort-Worth Critics Forum Award winners for Best Direction.

René Moreno directed A. R. Gurney's Black Tie last season at WaterTower Theatre. He has also directed August: Osage County at WaterTower Theatre. His other directing credits include Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Living Out by Lisa Loomer, and Scott McPherson's Marvin's Room. An accomplished actor and director, he studied music at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, and theatre and dance at Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University, where he holds an MFA in directing. As an actor, he has performed on Broadway and Off-, at prestigious regional theatres across the country, on radio, television and film. He has directed numerous plays regionally, including classics and those of modern and emerging writers, in productions that have garnered critical acclaim and award recognition. A Dallas native, he is a member of SDC (Stage Directors and Choreographers Society) and an Artistic Associate with Shakespeare Dallas, as well as an Affiliated Artist with the Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre.

James Lemons is the Executive Director at the Lake Placid Performing Arts Center. He is an accomplished theatre director, and has more than 30 professional productions to his credit. For many years, James served as the Artistic Associate at WaterTower Theatre where he directed, among many other productions, the Company's production of The Great American Trailer Park Musical. He has won numerous awards for his work, including several Dallas Fort-Worth Critics Awards for Best Director.

Jim Covalt is the Co-Producing Director at Stage West in Fort Worth. He joined Stage West in its first season. He has directed such Stage West productions as The Rivals, Starbright & Vine, The Taming of the Shrew, What the Butler Saw, The Real Thing, and Arms and the Man. His many memorable stage appearances including performances in New Jerusalem, November, the Jeeves plays, The Seafarer, The Code of the Woosters, Port Authority, St. Nicholas, The Weir, and Travels with My Aunt.

Susan Sargeant is a producer, director and actress. She is the Producing Artistic Director of WingSpan Theatre Company that produces plays that are for and about women. Sargeant won a 2014 Dallas Fort Worth Theater Critics Forum Award for Best Direction for both The Diaries of Adam & Eve and Happy Days. Her work has been seen at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, The Bath House Cultural Center, and Contemporary Theatre of Dallas. Sargeant has directed many Edward Albee plays including Counting the Ways, The American Dream and the Sandbox, and The Play about the Baby.

Tre Garrett is the current Artistic Director for Jubilee Theatre. Garrett won two 2014 Dallas Fort-Worth Critics Forum Awards for Best Direction for A Raisin in the Sun (Dallas Theatre Center) and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Jubilee Theatre). He is a former Show Director for Walt Disney Entertainment. He is a graduate of the prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and holds a BFA in Directing from the University North Carolina School of the Arts (Conservatory) and an MFA in Directing from the Academy of Art University. As a director, Tre Garrett is a Eugene O'Neill Playwright's Conference Directing fellow, Society of Stage Directors and Choreographer's John Gielgud Directing Fellow and Kenan Institute for the Arts Directing Fellow. He was the 2005 Director in Residence for the John F. Kennedy Center and the 2009 Culley Guest Artist Grant recipient. Tre Garrett has directed theatre, opera, concerts, short films and live performances all over the United States. He has been recognized as a Rising Star by the Ensemble Theatre of Houston and the Black Chamber of Commerce. He has been recognized and honored with Best in Theatre Awards and Best Director Awards by the Star-Telegram, Theatre Jones, DFW Critics Forum and The Column. Tre Garrett is the recipient of two National Foundation of the Arts awards, and two NAACP Act-so Awards.

Michael returns to WaterTower Theatre having directed Hank Williams: Lost Highway. Recent projects include the award winning productions of The Producers, Take Me Out for Uptown Players where he directed the regional premiere of Next to Normal. Other regional premieres include the award-winning productions of Pageant (Crossroads Theatre), A Class Act, The Full Monty, The Light in the Piazza and, The Drowsy Chaperone (Theatre Three). Michael's direction and choreography of Nine, the musical (ICT Mainstage) earned 9 Column Awards. In addition other favorites include On Golden Pond, Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Sunshine Boys (CTD), Lobby Hero (Second Thought Theatre) Almost, Maine, Moonlight and Magnolias, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Full Monty (Theatre Arlington), and It's a Wonderful Life and Oklahoma! (WaterTower Theatre). This past 2 season Michael was named one of the critics Top Directors in Dallas for The Drowsy Chaperone and in Fort Worth for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and The Producers and How to Succeed in Business... the same year he received the prestigious Natalie Skelton Award for Artistic Excellence. Michael, an original cast member of A Chorus Line and Seesaw, has appeared in the films Every Little Step, Broadway: the Golden Age and Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age.
