Uptown Players puts Kyle Igneczi back in heels for the title role of Georgia McBride in Matthew Lopez's The Legend of Georgia McBride, running December 1 - 17, 2017 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

Uptown Players continues its season with the regional premiere of the 2015 Off-Broadway hit comedy The Legend of Georgia McBride, starring Kyle Igneczi in the title role. After years of struggling at a small-time club in the Florida Panhandle, Casey (Igneczi) realizes it's now or never for his career as an Elvis impersonator. He's young, he's broke, his landlord's knocking at the door, and he's just found out his wife is going to have a baby. Enter Miss Tracy Mills, a self-proclaimed grande dame of drag who guarantees Casey's life is about to get "all shook up." Matthew Lopez's hip-shakin', heartwarming tale explores what happens when one man trades in his blue suede shoes for platform pumps and discovers "he ain't nothing but a drag queen." The Legend of Georgia McBride will be directed by Bruce R. Coleman at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.

Kyle Igneczi's award-winning performance in the title role of Hedwig and the Angry Inch had him strutting around in drag as if it was a second skin. His role as Casey is a very different story. Igneczi says, "This show is going to stun audiences with this extreme humanity, filled with laughs, sass, lots of drag, and a whole lot of heart." He is looking forward to learning from some of the hottest drag talent in town. Igneczi continues, "Chris and Walter are going to whip me into shape! But what is most exciting about this role is having the opportunity to open myself up for another aspect of what it is to be human, discovering and exploring a new means of expression through the art of drag."

Director Bruce R. Coleman will lead the cast of DFW favorites in this fast-paced play. Coleman explains, "What I really like about this story is the path each character takes to finding their strength. They create their own happiness. Each character reaches a crossroads and has to make a crucial decision that could possibly change their entire life. The ending is truly a celebration of Freedom. It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read!"

The Uptown Players cast is Kyle Igneczi as Casey and Sky Williams as his wife Jo; Tyler Cochran, Walter Lee, Chris Herrero, and Bradley Campbell.

The Legend of Georgia McBride runs December 1-17, 2017, with shows at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Performances take place at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd (at Blackburn), Dallas, TX 75219. Tickets are $25-$40 and can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.
