Sarah Ruhl, the award-winning playwright who gave us plays like Stage Kiss and Dead Man's Cell Phone, brings us a different world in this poignant story of a life cut short. Most of us know the classic myth of Orpheus, and his journey to the Underworld. Ruhl takes that story and flips it upside down, instead showing us Eurydice's journey, her shock and heartache, and her ability to find something wonderful amid the darkness and confusion.

The story is both sweet and sad, funny and thought-provoking. It begs the question: What is most important in life (or death)? When faced with an impossible decision, perhaps between great, but very different kinds of love, or between the eternal pain of grief and the sweet relief of ignorance, what and how do we choose?

This production is directed by Nicole Neeley, who graduated from Midwestern State University in 2014 with a BFA in Acting/Directing. Nicole has graced many a DFW stage, and also had one of her own plays produced in Chicago at the Heartland Theatre. Some of her directing credits included Fin & Euba by Audrey Cefaly at the Fain Fine Arts Center Theatre, Sourheart, one of her own plays, at the Bea Wood Studio Theatre, Marren and the Three-Legged Moose for the Sundown Short Works Festival. She is passionate about this play, and the message it carries.
"The beauty of Eurydice is that we're suddenly understanding a personal hero's journey. She finds herself in a dark and horrible underworld, but somehow still finds a way to continue on. The father goes through this journey as well- finding beauty in a place that doesn't allow it."

Robert Linder, Grants Director- "Eurydice is a classic myth rewritten for modern times with a strong and fascinating female lead that explores the themes of death, love, memory, and the importance of family"
