You only live once, but you can perform your solo show about it over two weekends in January as Richardson Theatre Centre opens its 26th season with its first-ever Yolo Solo Festival, celebrating solo performances and close collaborations between playwrights and actors. The theme is "You only live once." All projects will reflect or express that theme.

Submissions now are open for the festival, which seeks original productions 10- to 30 minutes in length. This is a self-producing festival, meaning writers are responsible for casting and directing their own shows. Deadline for submissions is December 1, 2013. Choices will be announced by mid-December. Playwrights and solo artists in North Texas will be given precedence in the selection process.

Dallas arts writer, playwright and solo performer Elaine Liner will serve as curator of the festival. Longtime RTC artistic director Rachael Lindley will produce.

For a submission form (writers must complete one to submit with a script), email yolosolofest@gmail.com with the words "Form request" in the subject line. One will be emailed back.

Only unproduced, original work will be accepted. Plays that have had staged readings are eligible. Adaptations are acceptable if based on rights-free material. Projects do not have to be monologues, but note that this is a festival of plays, not storytelling or stand-up comedy. There is no submission fee. There are no age limits for writers or actors. Each selected playwright and actor will receive a stipend of $150.

The non-profit Richardson Theatre Centre is a 70-seat black box space at 518 West Arapaho Road, Suite 113, Richardson, TX 75080. The theater was founded in 1989.

The Yolo Solo Festival will be followed by RTC's regular season of shows, which will include Moon over Buffalo, The Unexpected Guest, The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge, A Trip to Bountiful, Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know and another show TBA.

Season tickets may be purchased by calling 972-699-1130 or by ordering through the website.
