SO GO THE GHOSTS OF MEXICO, PART ONE Continues at Undermain Theatre

By: Sep. 28, 2016

To begin its 33rd season, Undermain Theatre opened to a winning reception and enthusiastic reviews with the first of a trilogy of new plays exploring the US/México drug wars that will be produced over the course of the next three seasons.

Artistic Director, Katherine Owens directs. Matthew Paul Olmos's so go the ghosts of méxico, part one - a brave woman in méxico is currently playing at Undermain's home in Deep Ellum - 3200 Main Street, through October 8th.

The first play of the trilogy is inspired by the life of a young woman who faces the drug cartels in an effort to create a safe future for her entire town. Mysterious music highlights the return of the ghosts of mexico to reclaim their country. The message Olmos successfully conveys is that for those who do evil - they will eventually pay.

The second installment will focus on the cartels and be presented next season, while the third play will be about the US involvement in the drug wars and will be produced in Undermain's 35th season.

Mr. Olmos is a three-time Sundance Institute Fellowship/Residency recipient, New Dramatists Resident Playwright, the 2012 Princess Grace Awardee in Playwriting and was recently named by Sam Shepard as the inaugural recipient of the La Mama E.T.C.'s Ellen Stewart Emerging Playwright Award.

Celebrating 33 years since its inception in 1984, Undermain Theatre is a company of artists that performs experimental works in Texas, New York, and Europe, collaborates with playwrights to develop original and world premiere productions, publishes plays, and sustains a theater in Dallas' historic Deep Ellum. As defined by their mission statement, Undermain Theatre seeks to inspire, educate and challenge audiences and artists through its production of innovative theater with particular interest in poetic and language-driven work.
