Rover Dramawerks Presents SUNDAY IN NEW YORK 1/20/11

Rover Dramawerks is pleased to present the classic comedy Sunday in New York by Norman Krasna, opening on Thursday, January 20. Performances will be at the Cox Building Playhouse, 1517 H Avenue in Plano (next to the Courtyard Theater), continuing through February 12, with shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., and an additional matinee performance on Saturday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m.

Eileen (played by Kelsey Kruse) has discovered that being a "good girl" makes it hard to get a man. But when she becomes literally attached to one (played by Jake Shanahan) on a crowded Fifth Avenue bus and the two of them are caught in a downpour, how does she explain the two of thEm Lounging in bathrobes to her would-be fiancé AND her protective older brother (played by Matthew Clark and Chester Maple)? A small fib, made to avoid a misunderstanding, quickly grows enormous and our heroine is hard-pressed to convey the truth which will save her engagement - and her reputation. Playing all of the ancillary characters in the play are Justin Amos and Dustina Reasons, with Nick Hoenshell as understudy.

Sunday in New York is a wildly funny Broadway success from the 1960s by one of America's masters of comedy. In addition to penning the play (featuring a young Robert Redford on Broadway), Krasna also wrote the screenplay (starring Jane Fonda in one of her earliest films), along with many other popular titles over the years, including that of perennial favorite, White Christmas, The Devil and Mrs. Jones, and the Marilyn Monroe vehicle, Let's Make Love. Krasna won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Princess O'Rourke.

Mark C. Guerra directs Sunday in New York, with Sonya Jones as Assistant Director/Stage Manager. Abigail Kipp is set designer, Paul McKenzie is costume designer, and Terrie Justus is properties designer. Richard Frolich is sound designer and Brooks Powers is lighting designer.

Tickets for Sunday in New York are $16.00 on Thursdays and matinees and $20.00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Thursday, January 20 is Preview Night, and all seats are "pay-what-you-can."

Following the show on Saturdays, January 29 and February 5 at 10:30 p.m., Rover Late Night will present the third installment of Graphic Novelties - stagings of classic comic books. Free to anyone attending Sunday in New York that night, otherwise, just $5.
