Roles available for OnStage in Bedford's production of 'Man of La Mancha'

OnStage in Bedford is holding open auditions Jun. 22-23 from 7-10 pm for its upcoming production of the musical Man of La Mancha at its theater, located at 2819 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford, Texas. If necessary, callbacks will be held on Mon., Jun. 29. Please note that an ethnically diverse cast is being sought.

Written by Dale Wasserman with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, this production of Man of La Mancha is being directed by Dennis Yslas with music direction by Larry Miller and choreography by Darius Anthony Robinson.

The following roles are available:

  • Captain of the Inquisition (non singing role)
  • 2 guards of the Inquisition (no lines: may double as Knight of the Mirrors attendants)
  • Manservant / Sancho Panza (Tenor)
  • Governor / Innkeeper (Bass / Baritone)
  • Duke / Dr. Sanson Carrasco (Bass / Baritone)
  • Jose, Tenorio, Paco, Juan, Anselmo, Pedro and Guitar Player (all vocal parts)
  • Padre (legit Tenor)
  • Barber (Tenor)
  • 4 attendants to the Knight of the Mirrors: Dancers preferred
  • Aldonza (Mezzo Belter)
  • Maria (Soprano)
  • Fermina
  • Antonia (Soprano)
  • Housekeeper (legit Mezzo)
  • Moorish Girl: Dancer preferred

The role of Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote, and Alonso Quijana have been pre-cast.

Those auditioning are asked to:

  • Bring a Headshot/Resume
  • Prepare 32 measures of a legit standard Broadway song in the style of the show (it is ok to sing a song from the show but please do not sing "Impossible Dream")
  • Bring sheet music in your key (accompanist will be provided but will not transpose at the audition)

There are no Equity Contracts for this show and there is no pay. The first rehearsal is Mon., Jul. 6 at 6:30 pm. Rehearsals will be held Mon., Tue., and Thu. from 6:30-9:30 pm, Sat. from 10 am - 4 pm, and Sun. from 2-5 pm (schedule subject to change). Opening night is Fri., Aug. 14 at 8 pm and the final performance is Sat., Sep. 5 at 8 pm. Evening performances are Fri-Sat at 8 pm with Sat. matinees at 2 pm.
