Black Flag Theatre Company presents QUILLS By Doug Wright

Black Flag Theatre Company begins their inaugural season with the steampunk dark fantasy Quills by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doug Wright. Joel Frapart (UNT Theatre graduate) stars as Abbé du Coulmier, a timid cleric who is ordered to silence the outrageously irreverent - and prolific - Marquis de Sade (Brian Hoffman). Directed by Hugh Lehman. The play runs February 9 - March 3, 2018, in the Cox Playhouse in downtown Plano. Tickets are on sale now. Limited seating. Mature content. 18+ only.

An ambitious new doctor takes command of Charenton and soon discovers the financial rewards for silencing the "poison pen" of the asylum's most notorious inmate, the Marquis de Sade. The Marquis, however, is not easily silenced. Written by Dallas-native Doug Wright, author of the musicals Hands on a Hardbody, The Little Mermaid, and War Paint, as well as I Am My Own Wife, winner of the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Quills presents a violent battle-of-wills and a timely intellectual debate about the roles of art, speech and censorship that actress Kate Winslet praises as "similar to Shakespeare." Quills won the Kesselring Award for Best New American Play and an Obie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting.

"Quills reinvents the myth of the Marquis de Sade as a macabre dance of wills, a story of souls lost and a theatrical fete of wild imagination." - New York Theatre Workshop

Hugh Lehman directs. The design and production team includes Andy Wu (set & prop design), Shanna Gobin (costumes), Katie Mont (art coordinator), and Mason Bunkelman as stage manager.
