Blues at the Crossroads 2: Muddy & The Wolf Caps Segerstrom Center's 2012-13 Jazz Season

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents Blues at the Crossroads 2: Muddy & The Wolf on March 13 in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The performance celebrates the music of two legends and friendly rivals - Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf - both revered as the "father of modern Chicago blues." The Fabulous Thunderbirds anchors this musical tribute, backing such greats as James Cotton, Jody Williams, Bob Margolin and JJ Grey. Each musician brings his own distinctive talent, producing a timeless mix of blues, rock and R&B.
SCR's Theatre for Young Audiences Opens ANASTASIA KRUPNIK, 2/8-24

Lois Lowry's admired novel provides the setting for SCR's Theatre for Young Audiences touching play Anastasia Krupnik, adapted by Meryl Friedman. Through her safeguarded journal and her wacky personality the show portrays both hilarious and serious issues in childhood and family life. The performances run Feb. 8-24 on the Julianne Argyros Stage. Tickets are available at www.scr.org.

Active duty military personnel with current ID can purchase specially priced $20 tickets at the Center Box Office located at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa one hour prior to performances.

Kitka Premieres New Folksongs, 3/8-10

The Bay Area's trailblazing and internationally acclaimed women's vocal ensemble, Kitka, is pleased to announce New Folksongs from Within, an original program featuring two world premieres conceived and created for the ensemble by two of Kitka's own vocalists, Janet Kutulas and Elizabeth Setzer. Kutulas's Iron Shoes is centered around the heroines of three separate Eastern European fairytales. Iron Shoes will be presented as a concert version of what will eventually be a fully-staged folk opera. Setzer's Apple Blossoms and Brine is a song cycle about the timeless experiences of love and heartbreak, loss and celebration. New Folksongs from Within takes place at Oakland's intimate new concert venue, the Piedmont Piano Company in Oakland, California, Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10, 2013.

And for this year, a special Valentine's Jazz Dinner will be offered featuring world class jazz in the Pacific Coast Ballroom, followed by the first of four nights of jazz (starting 7:30 on Thursday and 7:00pm Friday-Sunday) on the main stage of the Grand Pacific Ballroom.

South Coast Repertory wraps up its current season with a fresh take on an American classic and a world premiere. The Fantasticks, the longest-running musical of all time, in a new setting by Amanda Dehnert, will be the final production of the season. SCR also will present the world premiere of Beau Willimon's The Parisian Woman as part of the 2013 Pacific Playwrights Festival.

That's the heart of Stephen Adly Guirgis' play The Motherf**ker with the Hat, the Broadway hit at South Coast Repertory Jan. 6-27. The production is directed by Michael John Garcés, artistic director at Cornerstone Theatre Company.

Tony Award nominee Douglas Sills and Sara Gettelfinger will star as Gomez and Morticia in a principal cast that also includes Tony Award nominee Martin Vidnovic as Mal Beineke, Gaelen Gilliland as Alice Beineke, Blake Hammond as Uncle Fester, Pippa Pearthree as Grandma, Tom Corbeil as Lurch, Patrick D.
