Segerstrom Center Presents World Premiere of ABT's The Firebird

By:

In honor of Segerstrom Center's 25th Anniversary Season, American Ballet Theatre will present the world premiere of Alexei Ratmansky's new production of The Firebird along with other beloved short ballets March 29 - April 1, 2012 in Segerstrom Hall. Scheduled to perform in The Firebird are three extraordinary ballerinas: Natalia Osipova, Misty Copeland and Isabella Boylston. This American dance treasure and galaxy of international dance superstars will again captivate audiences with every move. ABT, with its unparalleled roster of dancers, holds a special place in the hearts of Orange County audiences as the Company that has appeared at Segerstrom Center more than any other. Also announced for the program is the West Coast premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Thirteen Diversions, praised as "spectacular" by The New York Times.

"The significance of The Firebird to ballet's history can not be overstated," said Kevin McKenzie, ABT's Artistic Director. "Alexei's background in Russian music, culture and symbolism combined with his incredible facility for story-telling, will surely have an important impact on how he brings this enchanting tale to life. I'm glad we can share the excitement of this special World Premiere production with Segerstrom Center as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary."
