SCR Presents A Workshop Production Of Between Us Chickens 3/25-4/3

By: Mar. 10, 2011

Two small-town twentysomethings-one a party girl, the other a homebody-find their roles reversing after they move to L.A. and meet a smooth-talking local in SCR's workshop production of Sofia Alvarez' Between Us Chickens.

The play, which runs March 25 through April 3, is part of SCR's inaugural Studio Series, a pilot program designed to create stronger ties between arts organizations and expose audiences to the rich diversity of the local arts scene. It also gives SCR a chance to extend its artistic boundaries and produce works that might not find a home on a main stage.

Between Us Chickens features a talented trio of SCR newcomers. Amelia Jean Alvarez (Off-Broadway's The Distance from Here) plays Meghan, a hard-partying sales clerk accustomed to the attention of men. Recent USC graduate Annabelle Borke plays her shy roommate, Sarah, an online poker player with a big secret. And Ben Huber (Off-Broadway's Yellowface) plays Charles, the L.A. scoundrel who comes between them.

Directing the production is Casey Stangl, who also directed a reading of the play at the 2010 Pacific Playwrights Festival.

Sofia Alvarez is currently a Lila Acheson Wallace Playwriting Fellow at The Juilliard School. She is an alumna of The Royal Court Theatre's Young Writer's Program in London, where she developed her play Life Drawing. She was recently awarded Lincoln Center Theater's Lecomte du Nouy Prize. She received her BA in Drama from Bennington College.
