Photo Flash: Los Amigos High School Visits Cast of WAR HORSE at Segerstrom Center

By:
Nothing inspires dreamers more than meeting those who are living theirs. Ms. Rubin's drama class at Los Amigos High School in Fountain Valley met a number of performers from the Broadway show War Horse who were living their dreams at Segerstrom Center this past two weeks. On Friday, February 1, the class attended a performance and met several cast members afterwards in Founders Hall. The aspiring young actors had the opportunity to quiz their new mentors about the show and their careers. Check out a photo of the group below!

Founders Hall is a "black box" rehearsal space - a traditional room in all theaters where rehearsals usually take place. As Ms. Rubin commented, "For them, this is the first time they've actually been in a black box - now they know they really exist and what they look like!" If luck holds, some of her students may end up spending a lot of time in similar rooms during the course of their careers.

War Horse is the powerful story of young Albert's beloved horse, Joey, who has been enlisted to fight for the English in World War I. Joey is caught in enemy crossfire and ends up serving both sides of the war before landing in no man's land. Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. What follows is a remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, filled with stirring music and songs and told with the some of the most innovative stagecraft of our time.

The tour of War Horse, which was adapted from the book by Morpurgo by Nick Stafford, is directed by Bijan Sheibani based on the original Tony Award-winning direction by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, and presented in association with Handspring Puppet Company. At the heart of the show are life- sized puppets which bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.
