OCPA to Present ONE GOOD DAY at Theatre Out, 12/6

CSUF alums Steven Biggs, Rose London, Jill Cary Martin, Patrick Peterson and Paige Scurti Sternin are all featured in the staged reading of Erica Bennett's One Good Day, the latest full-length play presented in the Orange County Playwrights Alliance's OCPA Studios series. Bennett and London are co-directing this December 6 reading at Theatre Out in the heart of Santa Ana's Artists Village; Theatre Out will receive 50% of the box office proceeds from the event.

Polly wakes up on the morning of her surprise 50th birthday party to discover her husband Richard out of a job, her special needs son Ryder removed from community college as a result of vandalism, and her grief-stricken mother taking her rage out on the furniture. All she wants is one good day ... a day in which she can feel truly loved, and free.

Erica Bennett is a tenured librarian at Fullerton College (and, like her cast, a graduate of Cal State Fullerton). Her full-length drama Bender was produced this summer at OC-centric: Orange County's New Play Festival (Chapman University). A Waffle Doesn't Cure Insomnia was published in The Best American Short Plays 2011-2012 (Applause), and her short documentary Mendez v. Westminster: Families for Equality has aired on KOCE-TV (OC's PBS affiliate) since October 2010. Erica received her B.A. in Theater from CSUF and her MLIS from UCLA. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild and New Voices Playwrights Theatre in addition to OCPA.

The Orange County Playwrights Alliance (OCPA) began on April 1, 1995 with an informal meeting in an oncologist's office in Anaheim. Since then, OCPA has become the fundamental group for playwrights in O.C., presenting staged readings and productions of plays at intriguing local theatres. Its dramatists have been produced across the U.S., and have won national and regional awards.

As a gay and lesbian theatre, Theatre Out presents works by gay and lesbian playwrights, as well as pieces about the gay and lesbian community, and strives to explore both the classics that shaped our history and the new works that are continuing to form, examine and reshape our culture. Theatre Out is passionate about telling the stories of the GLBT community with romantic comedies, intriguing musicals, thrilling mysteries, serious dramas and everything in between. Theatre Out fosters a creative environment open to all artists in the theatre community, and it fosters local playwrights by supporting groups such as OCPA.
