Grammy-Winning Kronos Quartet to Work with OCSA Students

By: Oct. 19, 2017

In partnership with the Orange County Philharmonic Society, Orange County School of the Arts has brought the talented and highly acclaimed Kronos Quartet to OCSA to teach and practice repertoire with select students.

The notable Kronos Quartet is composed of David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola) and Sunny Yang (cello). The quartet has released more than 60 recordings, performed thousands of concerts worldwide and received more than 40 awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004).

Each member of the Kronos Quartet will work on repertoire with one of four string quartets, including two quartets from Orange County School of the Arts, one visiting from Chapman University and one visiting from the Orange County Youth Symphony. The repertoire will be a short piece from the Kronos Quartet/Kronos Performing Arts Association's "Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire," an education and performance project in which the group commissioned 50 unique works designed to hone the skills of pre-professional string quartets.

It all takes place on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Orange County School of the Arts' Dance, Science and Music Centers, located at 1010 N. Main St, Santa Ana, CA 92701.

Students study under renowned guest artists, teachers and award-winning arts professionals as part of Orange County School of the Arts' Master Artist Series. The series began last year in conjunction with the school's 30th-anniversary celebration. Professionals in music, writing, musical theater, acting, culinary arts and more visit the campus to inspire students and give them exceptional, once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunities within their art disciplines. OCSA provides a creative, challenging, and nurturing environment that offers bright and talented students unparalleled preparation for higher education and a profession in the arts.
