William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy The Taming of the Shrew takes a farcical look at how society views the role of women. In the pursuit of the love of fair Bianca, her suitors must find a way for her shrewish older sister, Katherine, to marry in order for their father, Baptista, to give his blessing to wed Bianca. Hilarity ensues as suitors attempt to win Bianca’s love and the daring Petruchio attempts to “tame” the outspoken, opinionated Katherine. This work has inspired many adaptations such as the hit musical, Kiss Me Kate and the comedic high school movie 10 Things I Hate About You. This summer the West Haven Council on the Arts brings The Taming of the Shrew to you with a 1940’s twist.
