Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, running May 8 through May 31 at Ivoryton Playhouse, is set in a small Philadelphia nightclub in 1959 and captures one of Billie Holiday's final performances. Broadway alum Christina Acosta Robinson stars as Holiday, with actor-musician Manny Houston as Jimmy Powers, Holiday's accompanist and confidant, who also serves as Music Director. The production features live jazz and iconic songs including "God Bless the Child" and "Strange Fruit," exploring Holiday's life, loves, and the struggles that shaped her artistry. The production contains mature themes and language.
