Westport Community Theatre Announces THE PRICE Image

Westport Community Theatre is currently producing The Price, by Arthur Miller. Performances take place from November 23rd through December 9th on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, with a Thursday performance on November 29th at 8:00 p.m. John Atkin directs the play, which is produced by Sam Mink and Rich Mancini.

The Price premiered on Broadway in 1968, and was nominated for two Tony Awards, including Best Play. It examines−with compassion, humor and rare insight−the relationship of two long-estranged brothers who meet after many years to dispose of their late father's belongings. After the Great Depression, Victor Franz gave up going to college to support his father. When he returns after 30 years to sell his parents' estate, his wife, Esther, his brother, Walter, and a canny furniture dealer have their own agendas, and Victor is faced with dealing with his sacrifice. The Price is a brilliant, powerful, and deeply moving play that marked the author's triumphant return to Broadway. Variety Magazine called it "a challenging, gripping, and moving drama." And from the New York Times: "...one of the most engrossing and entertaining plays that Miller has ever written. It is superbly, even flamboyantly theatrical...."

John Atkin returns to Westport Community Theatre, after directing last season's A View From the Bridge, to direct his third Miller play. His previous directing credits include another Miller play, All My Sons; Gore Vidal's The Best Man; Is He Dead?; West Side Story; The Heiress; and Run For Your Wife. Additionally, Atkin has performed at WCT in A Few Good Men and The Best Man, and elsewhere in Arcadia, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Miracle on 34th Street, To Kill a Mockingbird, Merry Wives of Windsor, Baby: The Musical, The Music Man and How to Succeed in Business. A former state Senator and Representative, he is Treasurer of Curtain Call Theatre's board of trustees and has been a star dancer in their Dancing with the Stars.

WCT's cast includes Patrick Duffy, Rich Masotti, Kitty Robertson and Frederic Tisch. Amy Craw is Stage Manager. The Price is produced by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service. Tickets are $25 ($23 for seniors and $15 for students) and can be purchased at westportcommunitytheatre.com or by calling (203) 226-1983. Westport Community Theatre is located at the Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue.
