Saturday, July 30 will be a special event by award winning musical theatre writer Joe Iconis. He and his family of artists will play one night only (Directed by John Simpkins) in an original theatrical concert entitled Whiskey Songs. Summer 2011 also marks the renewal of a commitment to developing new artists and new musicals at TriArts. The very best of the next generation of musical theatre writers will gain valuable experience as they watch their work come to life in readings, concerts, showcases, and workshops. A full schedule will be available in the spring and will be updated at www.triarts.net.

Said Artistic Director Michael Berkeley "We hope our audiences will be as excited as we are about our varied season which includes the escapist tap-dancing fun of 42nd St, the edgy brilliance of Rent, and Hairspray, which addresses racial issues while brimming with infectious family fun. And, we're thrilled to be continuing to provide a venue for budding playwrights and composers with our New Works Series - without them, there would be no new shows."

Also new in 2011 is the introduction of a program, in partnership with NYU Steinhardt that will enable college students from Universities around the country to earn college credit for their performance in a TriArts Sharon Playhouse production. Artistic Director John Simpkins said: "This collaboration will create an exciting and unique environment where everyone is learning from each other in the production process. It is our goal to channel that energy in order to build a large and vibrant audience as well as a reputation for being a terrific place to create theatre."

Rounding out the creative teams for the season are resident designers Erik Diaz (Scenic) and Chris Dallos (Lighting) - and costume designers Keith Schneider (42nd Street), Michelle Humphrey (Rent), and Lindsay Forde (Hairspray). Alice Bemand is the Executive Director. Auditions for the 2011 Season will begin in February in both CT and NYC.
