Theatre Uncut to Return to Playhouse on Park, 11/15-16
A worldwide initiative returns to West Hartford! In continuance with a tradition started in 2012, Playhouse on Park presents Theatre Uncut, an international festival of one-act plays. Three years ago, a simple concept was presented: use the stage as a way to get people thinking, talking, and taking action. Esteemed playwrights from all over the world express their responses to the political issues in their countries, from the economy and education to gender equality and civil rights; then those responses are made into one-act plays. The result has been performances by over 3,000 people in 17 countries over 4 continents. As the winner of several prestigious awards, and having been shortlisted for the Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Award at Edinburgh Fringe 2012, Theatre Uncut has been described as "21st Century Theatre at the raw peak of its powers, doing exactly what it does best" (Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman). Playhouse on Park is the only CT theatre that has participated in the festival to date.
This year's one-acts at Playhouse on Park are a part of the new Playhouse on The Edge series, and will include True or False by Davey Anderson, Capitalism is Crisis by Tim Price, The Wing by Clara Brennan, Church Forced to Put Up Gates After Fountain is Used As Wash Basin By Migrants by Mark Thomas, and Recipe by Rachel Chavkin (The Team). Theatre Uncut performs November 15th and 16th at 8:00 PM. Tickets are priced at $15. For more information, call 860-523-5900 x10, or visit www.palyhouseonpark.org.
