The Windham Theatre Guild to Present THE MIRACLE WORKER to Close 2015-16 Season
The Windham Theatre Guild will present The Miracle Worker, by William Gibson as the final Main Stage production of the 2015-2016 Season, opening on Friday, June 3rd at the Burton Leavitt Theatre.
Immortalized onstage and screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, this classic tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. As the 1960 Tony Award winner for Best Play, The Miracle Worker dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge. Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence. With scenes of intense physical and emotional dynamism, Annie's success with Helen finally comes with the utterance of a single, glorious word: "water".
Don't miss this extraordinary production under the direction of Jill Luberto, who brought us last June's stunning production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The Miracle Worker runs June 3, 4, 10 & 11 at 8:00pm, Thursday June 9 at 7:30pm, and Sunday Matinees on June 5 & 12 at 2:00pm at the Burton Leavitt Theatre, 779 Main Street, Willimantic. Ticket prices are $19 for Adults, $16 for Students/Seniors, and $12 for children under 12. All UCONN, ECSU & QVCC students pay the discounted price of $14. Group discounts are also available. Anyone who buys a ticket at the door on Thursday, June 9 will pay the kid's price of just $12. This special offer does NOT apply to tickets reserved in advance.
