The MAC's New England Guitar Society Presents Ali Ryerson and Joe Carter in Viva Musica Brasileira

Join the MAC's New England Guitar Society for Ali Ryerson and Joe Carter's Viva Musica Brasileira on Saturday, March 9th! The Brazilian flute and guitar duo will provide a master class at 2pm, followed by an evening performance of cool Brazilian Jazz on flute and guitar at 8pm at Milford Arts Council, the MAC in downtown Milford CT at 40 Railroad Avenue South.

The Ali Ryerson-Joe Carter Duo celebrates the music of Brazil

Celebrate the music of Brazil - Samba, Bossa Nova, Choro, Baiao and more - featuring songs by Brazil's classic composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Moacir Santos, Jacob do Bandolim, Luiz Bonfa, Pixinguinha, Baden Powell, Ary Barroso and others.

By using their Jazz backgrounds to add Jazz improvisation into the tunes, Ryerson and Carter create a sound that blends the best of both worlds. In other words: Music from "Both Sides of the Equator". Ryerson and Carter often perform together on flute and guitar, and together they delight audiences wherever they go. Ryerson is an internationally known musician who has performed with many noted musicians in a number of different genres over her career, while Joe Carter has performed and recorded with many noted jazz musicians.

Joe Carter: Having performed in such diverse places as Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba and Recife in Brazil, Bombay, Bangalore and Goa in India, Trossingen and Stuttgart in Germany and Paris and Corsica in France, Joe Carter has used these experiences to form a sound and style based in "Samba Jazz", a style that combines the improvisational nature of North American Jazz with the lyrical and rhythmical aspects of Brazilian Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro, Baiao and MPB. Professor Carter is Director, Academic Music Programs at Sacred Heart University

Ali Ryerson: With a career spanning four decades, jazz flutist Ali Ryerson continues to tour, record and teach master classes internationally. Consistently voted among the top jazz flutists in the Downbeat Jazz Poll and honored as Jazz Flutist of the Year nominee by the Jazz Journalists Association, Ryerson has released nearly two dozen recordings on major jazz labels such as Concord, DMP, Capri Records, and legendary jazz producer Bob Thiele's Red Baron. Ryerson has recorded and/or toured with jazz icons such as Kenny Barron, Frank Wess, Joe Beck, Mike Mainieri, Roy Haynes, Hubert Laws, Stephane Grappelli, Art Farmer and Red Rodney, to name a few, as well as classical artists Julius Baker and Luciano Pavarotti.
