The Hartt School presents a variety of music, dance, and theatre performances this May, many of which are free, and all are open to the public. All events take place at the University of Hartford's main campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT, unless otherwise noted. Understanding and Common Ground-Hartt Choruses, New Haven Chorale, and Hartt Wind Ensemble
The Cathedral of Saint Joseph welcomes The Hartt School choruses, the New Haven Chorale, and The Hartt School Wind Ensemble and its director Glen Adsit for a thought-provoking evening that explores the relationships and common ground among Christians, Jews, and Muslims, through stunning music and an inspirational multimedia presentation. Conductor Edward Bolkovac, Choirmaster at the Cathedral, will lead Yale composition faculty Christopher Theofanidis' powerful work The Here and Now (2009) for large chorus and wind ensemble, based on texts by the Muslim mystic Jal?l ad-D?n Muhammad Balkh?, known in English as Rumi. Maestro Glen Adsit will take the baton for the antiphonal works by Gabrieli and Schütz, and excerpts from Bloch's Avodath Hakodesh (Sacred Service).

Foot in the Door
The final FITD concert of the year will feature Schoenberg's epic work his Chamber Symphony Op. 9. In addition we continue our mini-explorations of Revueltas with his Homenaie a Federico Garcia Lorca and Beethoven with his Groose Fugue. Come hear what the critics at the time described as a fugue of incomprehensible nature, "like Chinese" and plain old "babel."

Hartt Alumni Janet Jacobson, violin, Kum Joung You, viola, Han-Wei Lu, cello, and Anastasia Seifetdinova, piano, perform. Repertoire includes Piano Quartet by Robert Schumann, Piano Trio "Memos to Mr. Palomar" by Ken Steen, and the Connecticut premiere of the Piano Sonata No. 4 by Mieczyslaw Weinberg.
