Submissions for Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's 2016 National Playwrights Conference Now Open

By:

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center has announced a national call for submissions for the 2016 National Playwrights Conference. Applicants may submit new plays for development through the Open Submissions Process beginning today through Friday, October 16.

The National Playwrights Conference is the founding program of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center and led by NPC Artistic Director Wendy C. Goldberg. The conference supports playwrights during the creation and development of new plays. Authors of selected works will be awarded a one-month residency (July 2016) with stipend, housing, meals, and transportation to support an intensive rehearsal process and two script-in-hand public readings.

Submission Details

  • Apply at www.theoneill.org/npc/submission
  • Plays of any length or genre are eligible; however, to be included in the conference, the work must remain unproduced through July 31, 2016.
  • The submission fee is $35 USD and covers the cost of the process.
  • Early submissions are strongly encouraged.
  • No agent is required.
  • Both electronic and hard copy applications are accepted.

The O'Neill will also host three online Q&A sessions about the process on the O'Neill Facebook page:

  • Thursday Sep. 24th - 1pm (with special guest Joe Waechter, Good Ol' Boys, NPC 2015)
  • Sunday Oct. 4th - 3pm
  • Tuesday Oct 13th - 6pm (with special guest Jenny Connell Davis, End of Shift, NPC 2015)

Says Wendy C. Goldberg, Artistic Director of the National Playwrights Conference: "It's been a remarkable year, celebrating seven O'Neill projects in production off-Broadway. For our 52nd season, I look forward to building on our immense artistic legacy and helping to nurture the most innovative and fearless storytellers of our time."
