By:

The Spring Gala of Shakespeare on the Sound at the Wee Burn Country Club in Darien April 6 offers patrons an evening in "The Magical Forest of Arden" in support of an authentic Connecticut cultural asset.

The descriptive is Leslie Lawrence's, the president of the theater's board of directors
and co-chair with her husband Bobby of the committee driving the fundraiser. Three weeks in advance, she reports ticket sales surpassed 120 which augurs well for the success of the evening.

Proceeds support the theater's educational activities, community outreach and annual production in Rowayton's Pinkney Park. For the 18th season, the theater is presenting "As You Like It" June 13-30. Admission is free and donations welcomed.

"Come Hither to the Magical Forest of Arden," the theme for the April 6 benefit, is
drawn in part from the setting for Shakespeare's a pastoral comedy. Dress is festive, fitting the décor being created by Rowayton's own Brian Kammerer, an accomplished
illustrator and storyboard artist, and his wife Glenda.
Music for the evening is to be provided by The Short Bus, a five-piece, Greenwich-based group that has been named the Best of the Gold Coast Cover Band six years
running, offering dance rock classics like "Play That Funky Music" and a medley of 1980s pop.
The gala starts at 6:30 p.m. and calls for cocktails, a live auction and dinner. Among the auction items are four nights at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, FL, donated by Pam and Shannon Bass, Summer in Big Sky Montana, donated by Alison and Kurt Kohlmeyer, a Night at the Opera donated by Bruce and Charlotte Burton, a tour of "The Cake Boss" studio and The Golden Cone, a free ice cream cone every day for life, donated by
Basic ticket cost: $175. Reservations and additional information are available by calling Shakespeare on the Sound at (203) 299-1300 or online at www.shakespeareonthesound.org.
