SLEEPING BEAUTY Opens at The Sherman Playhouse 12/2

On Friday, December 2, The Sherman Playhouse will open an original production for the whole family, the classic fairy tale, SLEEPING BEAUTY. The show opens at 8:00 p.m. for a five-week run.

SLEEPING BEAUTY is being presented as a 'Panto' or Pantomime in the British style. To make it very clear, there is absolutely no miming in British Pantomimes. A British Panto is a winter tradition of musical comedy theatre that takes familiar fairy tales and children's stories, like SLEEPING BEAUTY, and injects a bit of vaudevillian sensibility, contemporary references, and lots and lots of audience participation to create a raucous, noisy entertainment that's fun for the whole family. There are tuneful songs, delightful dancing, and funny jokes galore.

"British Panto is a lot of fun for children and adults alike," said director and British-native Patricia Michael of Dover Plains, N.Y. "For the children there's the magical Fairy Tale, but there are also lots of funny jokes and audience participation, which is entertaining for all ages. We have a wonderful cast who also runs the gamut of ‘all ages' 12 to 70. What's more, the show has the same age range when it comes to audience appeal...it's perfect for a family Holiday outing."

SLEEPING BEAUTY runs December 2-January 1. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays, with additional Friday & Saturday performances at 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinees on December 4,11,18 and January 1. Tickets for all shows are $20 for general seating for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.

On Thursday, December 1, all patrons are invited to attend a "Half-Price Preview Night" at 8:00 p.m. where all tickets are only $10 for both adults and children. Students may see any performance for only $10 if they pay in cash only at the door and carry a valid student ID. Students may not make reservations in advance for a performance.

On New Year's Eve, December 31, at 8:00 p.m. there will be one gala performance with hors d'oeuvres and an open bar of wine, beer, and soft drinks. Tickets for this event are $40 for both adults and children.
