Playhouse on Park to Offer Professional High School Actor Training Program
Playhouse on Park is offering a unique new program for young adults that are serious about pursuing acting at the college or professional level. The Summer Acting Conservatory runs weekdays from June 29 until July 10.
Students entering freshman year in high school through freshman year in college will explore what it means to study acting on a professional level. Under the instruction of West Hartford based professional actor and playwright, Aaron Pitre, students will gain an added understanding of not only the craft of acting, but also of their own personal instruments as actors. Techniques and games made popular by Konstantin Stanislavski, Augusto Boal, Sanford Meisner, Keith Johnstone, and Kristen Linklatter are included in the curriculum. The class will culminate with presentations from students for their peers and families.
Instructor Aaron Pitre began acting over 25 years ago with the Missoula Children's Theatre, and is a graduate of the theatre program at Suffolk University in Boston. He has worked professionally with several professional theatre companies throughout Seattle, New England, and Buffalo, and is the Board President and Acting Company Manager of Bated Breath Theatre Company. As a teaching artist and educator, he has worked with Hartford Stage, The Oddfellows Playhouse, The Long Wharf Theatre, Hartford Performs, Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, Hartford Public Schools, and Middletown Public Schools. In addition to this interactive curriculum, guest artists with Broadway and major regional credits will teach master classes during the Summer Acting Conservatory.
Each class meets at the Playhouse from 12:30 pm-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The fee is $550. To register, visit the Education page at www.playhouseonpark.org, and download the registration form, or call 860-523-5900x10 for more information. Playhouse on Park is located at 244 Park Road, West Hartford, CT, 06119.
