Join Jose Garcia-Leon for a piano recital of Scarlatti, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin & Listz. The concert is FREE for New London Maritime Society members and $5 for all others.

 

Pianist Jose Garcia-Leon is a first prize winner of numerous national and international competitions, including the Artist International Competition of New York.

Jose Garcia-Leon was born in Seville, Spain. After graduating with highest honors from the Conservatorio Superior de Sevilla, he moved to New York where he completed a Doctorate in Musical Arts at the Manhattan School of Music. He is currently Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Assistant Professor of music at the University of New Haven.

The Trans-Atlantic Slave Database has information on almost 35,000 slaving voyages that forcibly embarked over 10 million Africans for transport to the Americas between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. It offers researchers, students, and the general public a chance to rediscover the reality of one of the largest forced movements of peoples in world history. The Custom House Maritime Museum reopens Thursday, January 6.
