Based on actual events occurring in a convent in Brighton, New York, Agnes of God tells the story of Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist who is sent to evaluate Sister Agnes, a young nun whose infant has been found strangled and left lifeless in the wastebasket of her bedroom.
With Agnes claiming a virgin conception and having no memory of giving birth, Livingstone must distinguish between lies and the nun's perception-altering faith. Complicating her investigation, Livingstone continually clashes with the overbearing Mother Miriam Ruth who insists that Livingstone leave Agnes alone. Livingstone's questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.
Starring Susan Gellman as Dr. Martha Livingstone, Catherine Cryan as Mother Miriam Ruth and Eli Brickey as Agnes.
Staged at the Franklinton Playhouse in arena style seating (on all 4 sides of the stage).
