Cain Park Presents Free Concert Reading of FAMOUS SON 6/22

By:

Cain Park presents a concert reading of FAMOUS SON, a new original work with book and lyrics by John Paul Boukis and music by Terry Waltz and John Paul Boukis, on Tuesday, June 22 at 7 pm in the Alma Theater. Admission is free.

FAMOUS SON is directed by Paul Gurgol with musical direction by Terry Waltz and features SWEENEY TODD castmates John Paul Boukis, Benjamin Czarnota, Nick Koesters, Patty Lohr, and Bob Russell plus Jodi Brinkman and Jared Leal.

The musical centers on John Quincy Adams on the Fourth of July, a day that is bittersweet for him. While the rest of the nation rejoices, Adams is not sure if he shares their sentiment; he's lost the presidency, his father and his son. To make matters more complicated, Adams' famous family comes to life and presents him with an unexpected challenge that his forefathers could not complete: can Adams succeed where other have failed? And with slavery tearing the nation apart, will he be too late?

John Paul Boukis received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his MFA in Acting from Case Western Reserve University. He is a veteran of Cain Park having performed in The Robber Bridegroom, Anything Goes and this season's theatrical production, SWEENEY TODD. Boukis was co-founder and executive director of Kalliope Stage where he appeared in Carousel, A Little Night Music, Cabaret, The Wild Party, and Dear World among others. Boukis has also performed at the Burnbrae Dinner Theater in Maryland, Philadelphia Area Repertory Theater, and Cleveland's Jewish Community Center. Most recently, a concert reading of his new work, Café Neo, was performed at the 14th Street Theater in PlayhouseSquare.

Cain Park, a municipally owned and operated summer arts park and one of the nation's oldest landmark outdoor theatres entering its 72nd season, is produced by the City of Cleveland Heights and is located on Superior Road between Lee and South Taylor.

Cain Park 2010 season sponsors include The Friends of Cain Park, Cleveland.com, and Intercontinental Hotels, Cleveland. The 2010 Cain Park season is supported by the Ohio Arts Council.
