Capital Campaign Manager - Virginia Stage Company

Virginia Stage Company seeks a highly motivated, skilled and experienced fundraising

professional to join the team at this exciting point in the company’s history. S/He will work in close partnership with the Producing Artistic Director, Managing Director and an engaged and energized Board to complete the second phase of the company’s Capital Campaign (~$2M). The qualified candidate will support high artistic standards, strengthening connections with the Hampton Roads community and successfully engage loyal and growing audiences. This position presents an opportunity for the right candidate to join the Senior Staff of one of Norfolk’s most important cultural assets, a leading non-profit currently celebrating 40 years of theatre-making.

Virginia Stage Company (VSC) is a professional regional theater producing high-quality

productions at the Historic Wells Theatre in downtown Norfolk, VA. With a $2.7 million annual budget, VSC produces seven mainstage productions every season in addition to numerous education & community engagement initiatives. With an average annual attendance of 70,000 people, VSC has drawn over 3 million patrons to downtown Norfolk in the past quarter century and is the leading theatre of note in southeastern Virginia. Key Duties and Responsibilities



The Capital Campaign Manager (CCM) will serve as the lead strategist and will be responsible for articulating, planning and overseeing the implementation of said strategic direction for a comprehensive second phase of the company’s Capital Campaign program. The CCM has

primary responsibility for developing prospect cultivation and solicitation strategies. S/He is

expected to cultivate and solicit major gifts ($10,000+) from key prospects, as part of an

ambitious development plan.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, prospect identification, research, solicitation and stewardship; design, oversight, and implementation of all Capital Campaign initiatives, with a keen focus on achieving departmental goals.



In addition, the CCM will:



? Create and maintain an active pipeline of major donor prospects and Board prospects

? Oversee policies for gift acceptance and recognition, including compliance with

applicable tax laws

? Grow the major donor program, increasing the number of annual donors at the major gift

level

? Be skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for

fundraising; writing, reporting and presentation skills of the highest calibre

? Develop a partnership with each Board member to strengthen Trustee’s confidence as

fundraisers and active stewards of donors for the Capital Campaign

? Be adept at navigating a comprehensive fundraising campaign (multiple donor channels,

programs & levels; re-engaging where appropriate previous Campaign donors while

soliciting new relationships at the same time)

? Keep an eye out for funding opportunities for opportune capital projects

? Possess the openness to be effective in the unique fundraising communities that make up

Hampton Roads

? Collaborate with fellow Senior Staff and the Board to develop and implement long- and

short-term fundraising strategies centered in the Capital Campaign

? Identify a spectrum of donors whose charitable giving mission aligns with those of

Virginia Stage Company. Works with key VSC leadership to gather information needed

to establish a viable donor prospect list and strategic pathways to those prospects.

? Prepare and monitor revenue and expense budgets; provide accurate and timely reporting, analysis and integration of data



Qualifications & Experience



The CCM must:



? Demonstrate a successful track record of fundraising with a minimum of 5 years

of experience in the non-profit development sector, preferably in the arts, with

progressively responsible experience

? Exhibit leadership ability and consensus building skills, inspiring and motivating

colleagues in pursuit of success

? Possess excellent organizational, written/oral communication, and interpersonal

skills

? Demonstrated experience in working with volunteers and committees, with an

ability to supervise staff

? Display creative and strategic thinking, with an ability to grasp the organization’s

big picture

? Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and love of enterprise

? Have a belief that art makes our world a better place

This position will require the ability to work weekends and nights with regularity. A competitive salary and benefits package will be commensurate with skills and experience.
