LISTING INFORMATION

The Hippodrome Theatre’s internship program offers college students and recent graduates hands-on experience in the region’s premier professional theatre and cultural center. Interns will be able to funnel their passion for the arts into tangible outcomes, helping the Hippodrome continue to bring its patrons the best live theatre, cinema and rental experiences in Gainesville.



Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with our staff and guest artists, where they will gain valuable insight into how a non-profit arts organization functions. Your professional growth is important to us, and our team gives constructive feedback, offers interns the opportunity to develop their own projects and is focused on making plans come to fruition. Benefits of a Hipp Internship



Experience working in a professional regional theatre

Experience working in a non-profit arts organization

Involvement in six to eight professional productions (three to four if term is only one semester), as well as second-stage productions and special events.

Exposure to and/or experience in other areas of production and arts administration, and the ability to communicate and work collaboratively with artists

Knowledge of the rules and practices of the Actors Equity Association

Presentation skills, portfolio materials,and the ability to articulate your creative process

The primary purpose of the Development Intern is to assist the Hippodrome’s Development team in building and maintaining relationships with sponsors and donors. This internship is part-time, approximately 15-20 hours per week.



Essential Functions



Assist the Development team in maintaining donor, sponsor, and ticket donations databases

Conduct research

Make inquiry phone calls and follow ups

Coordinate and oversee the operation of special events

Support staff for fundraising events

Support staff for major campaign efforts

Maintain sponsor recognition on the Hippodrome’s website

Assist with any and all administrative responsibilities outside of those listed above, as determined by the Director of Development, Development Associate, Managing Director, or Artistic Director

General intern assignments during morning, afternoon, and evening hours including but not limited to mail-outs, postering, openings, strike, sales campaigns, will-call and special events



Job Skill Requirements



Proficiency in Excel, Word, Google Sheets & Docs is required.

Working knowledge of InDesign, WordPress/Tumblr, Constant Contact, and other commonly used programs is required.

Self-motivated

Strong customer service and hospitality skills

Flexibility, positive attitude, and a willingness to commit to long hours, hard work, and a demanding schedule

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy and artistic environment

Ability to conduct research

Ability to think on feet and step into unfamiliar roles

Ability to work collaboratively with different personality types

This internship is approximately 10-20 hours per week.

The Arts Administration Internship provides excellent experience in preparation for work in the general non-

profit field, particularly the arts.



Essential Functions:

Provide administrative support in the area of grants, management, budgeting, and operations

Research potential grant opportunities

Write letters and text for administrative and artistic projects

Assist in the preparation of grant applications, including proofreading of text and assembling of artistic materials

Assist in the preparation of post-award grant reports

Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and schedules as a tool for tracking deadlines and submission activities

General intern assignments during morning, afternoon, and evening hours including but not limited to mail-outs, postering, openings, strike, sales campaigns and special events

Requirements

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop and other commonly used PC programs

Ability to conduct research

Ability to think on feet and step into unfamiliar roles

Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy artistic environment

Ability to work collaboratively with different personality types

Self motivated

Good customer service skills

Valid Driver’s License with own transportation

Preferred Completed Course Work:

Public Relations Writing or professional writing equivalent

Public Relations Research or professional research equivalent

The Arts Archive Internship provides excellent experience in preparation for work in the general non-profit, library science, or museum studies fields, particularly related to the arts.

Implement a digital asset management system to manage and provide access to image collections across the theatre

Assist in the creation andimplementation of policies and procedures related to the archives, library, and records management.

Produce written descriptive records inventories, guides, and other retrieval aids in accordance with accepted archival standards and make these available in accordance with the access framework and permission policies

Implement basic records preservation measures, including digitization and re-housing for records accessioned into the archives

Write letters and text for administrative and artistic projects

Coordinate the use of archival content through a variety of mission-critical workflows, such as rights and reproduction, video production, staff research, and communications.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and schedules as a tool for tracking deadlines and submission activities

General intern assignments during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours including but not limited to mail-outs, postering, openings, strike, sales campaigns, and special events.

Requirements:



Knowledge of modern art and architecture and/or background in historic archives.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent organizational skills

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop and other commonly used PC programs

Ability to operate basic functions of a DSLR camera and high-resolution document scanner.

Ability to conduct research

Ability to think on feet and step into unfamiliar roles in a high energy artistic environment.

Ability to work collaboratively with different personality types

Self-motivated

Preferred Completed Course Work:



Enrolled in course work or has completed course work in archival, library, or information management, and/or course work in Museum Studies, Public History, or other related disciplines.
