Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will present Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", playing from March 22-April 21, 2013. This production is directed by CSC Artistic Associate Jeremy Dubin and features the entire CSC Resident Ensemble. The design of this production is generously sponsored by Graydon Head.

On an enchanted summer's evening three stories are woven together into one tale of hilarity and folly. Four young lovers find themselves entangled in a bewildering game of love in a magical forest where a powerful fairy king and queen are at war while a troupe of ridiculous "actors" attempt to rehearse a play.

Producing Artistic Director, Brian Isaac Phillips says "We are thrilled to present this highly requested Shakespeare comedy. It truly does feature our entire resident ensemble. From the four lovers played by Billy Chace, Justin McCombs, Miranda McGee and Maggie Lou Rader, and the mechanicals featuring Nicholas Rose as Nick Bottom and Brent Vimtrup, Sherman Fracher and Jim Hopkins and the fairies featuring Kelly Mengelkoch and Paul Riopelle, this is a true ensemble piece." Director Jeremy Dubin says of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" that it "is a near perfect comedy full of delight, joy, whimsy, frivolity and fun with just a pinch of impertinence. It enchants- quite literally. The eclectic populace of its capricious world runs the gamut from royalty, down to a lowly, semi-literate joiner, with the unlikely name of Snug. There is so much to love about this play."

The setting for this production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be 1940s America and a jazz inspired magical forest designed by award winning resident set designer, Andrew Hungerford. Costume designer Mary C. Woll, who is completing her first costume design at CSC says she is "excited to tackle this era for this production because it not only blends historical with fantasy but the design incorporates elements of musical theater that aren't typically seen in Shakespeare. An example would be drawing my inspiration for Titania's costumes from great performers of the day like Ella Fitzgerald and Lena Horne." This production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will feature musical and dance elements that enhance the buoyant and youthful nature of the story and help create a lush historical and fantastical world. Original music is composed by resident sound designer Doug Borntrager and original choreography is created by Brittany Kugler.
