Young artists from all corners of the globe will make their way to Cincinnati this summer to work with the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music's (CCM) world-class faculty and renowned guest artists while in residence at the state-of-the-art CCM Village.

CCM offers a wide array of high caliber summer programs and the general public can experience the artistry themselves during a series of public performances and guest artist recitals scheduled for June and July of 2013.

A complete schedule of summer performances is listed below, with highlights including semi-staged productions of Rossini's The Barber of Seville and La Cenerentola, the World Piano Competition Artist Division Finalists Concert featuring the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Associate Conductor Robert Treviño and guest artist recitals by acclaimed pianists Stephen Prutsman, Russell Sherman, Yoshikazu Nagai, CCM Artist-in-Residence Awadagin Pratt and more.

Join the young artists of CCM's Opera Studio summer program as they explore art song and the operatic repertoire in recital in the beautiful CCM Village. Admission is free and reservations are not required.

Featuring student conductors from CCM's Summer Workshops

In the quaint village of Seville, the beautiful Rosina is courted by quite a few men, and the quick-witted barber Figaro is in the middle of it all! One of Rossini's most beloved works, this sparkling comic opera will be presented semi-staged and will showcase the talented young vocalists and instrumentalists taking part in CCM's Realizing Rossini summer workshop. Sung in Italian.

The young artists of CCM's Opera Studio summer program are excited to share scenes from some of the most beloved works in the canon.

La Cenerentola (Cinderella)

Based on the fairytale Cendrillon by Charles Perrault

Not quite the classic fairytale you remember, this popular take on the Cinderella story presents a disheveled stepfather and his two daughters who are unprepared for Prince Ramiro to take an interest in stepdaughter Angelina. One of Rossini's funniest operas, La Cenerentola will be presented semi-staged and will showcase the talented young vocalists and instrumentalists taking part in CCM's Realizing Rossini summer workshop. Sung in Italian.

These talented artists compete for over $65,000 in prize money in a series of rounds leading to the finals, which are performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on July 13. The Gold Medal winner in the Artist Division is awarded a debut recital at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York and numerous performance opportunities worldwide.

Stephen Prutsman, piano

Stephen Prutsman has been described as one of the most innovative musicians of his time. Moving easily from classical to jazz to world music styles as a pianist, composer and conductor, Prutsman has collaborated with the likes of the Kronos Quartet, Tom Waits, Rokia Traore, Joshua Redman, Sigur Rós and Asha Bhosle. He continues to explore and seek common ground and relationships in the music of all cultures and languages.

Ory Shihor, piano

Ory Shihor, dean of the Colburn Academy in Los Angeles, is an award-winning pianist, educator and arts administrator. He was a major force in creating the Academy, recognizing the need to support highly-talented, pre-college age students who seek to continue their music studies at a conservatory level. Shihor produces the annual Colburn Piano Festival, which attracts applicants from around the world to its two-week summer immersion program, and is also a faculty member in the Colburn Conservatory's piano department.

Myong-Joo Lee, piano

Myong-joo Lee began her solo career at the age of fourteen with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and has since made her successful New York debut at the Carnegie Recital Hall and other appearances such as recital at the Frick Collection, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Flagler Museum of Art in Palm Beach, among others. Her orchestra appearances include the Rumanian Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Chamber Orchestra, Sewanee Festival Orchestra among others throughout US and broadcasts on WQXR in New York and WCLV in Cleveland.

Russell Sherman, piano

Legendary pianist Russell Sherman continues to garner accolades from critics and audiences alike for his grace, imagination and poetry. The New York Times calls him "one of the best pianists in this or any other country." Sherman has performed with such major orchestras as the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke's (with whom he performed the five Beethoven concertos), Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony.

• CCM Summer Programs: Art of the Piano Guest Artist Recitals•

Ning An, piano

Ning An has been hailed by the New York Concert Review as a musician who "combines a flawless technique and mastery of the instrument with an expressive power that is fueled by profound and insightful understanding." His top prizes from the Queen Elizabeth, Cleveland, and William Kapell Piano Competitions led to performances from Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, Salle Verdi (Milan), to the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China. He has been invited to perform at numerous festivals, including the International Chopin Festival in Poland, the Gina Bachauer Piano Festival in Salt Lake City, New Hampshire's Monadnock Music Festival, the Bourglinster Festival in Luxembourg and the Interlaken Music Festival in Switzerland. A passionate chamber musician as well as soloist, An has performed with groups such as the Ysaye, Daedalus, and Takacs Quartets as well as instrumentalists James Buswell, Paul Neubauer, Andres Diaz and Soovin Kim.

Mayron Tsong, piano

Steinway Artist Mayron Tsong has been taken by her performances around the globe to almost every state in the continental United States, as well as Canada, Russia, Sweden, Italy, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. After her solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Harris Goldsmith of the New York Concert Review praised it as "an enlivening, truly outstanding recital." Fanfare Magazine called her "a genius, pure and simple... perhaps, a wizard." Winner of numerous competitions and prizes, Mayron has performed and interviewed for many radio broadcasts, including CBC Radio in Canada, WDAV in North Carolina, WFMT Radio in Chicago, Radio 4 in Hong Kong and NPR's The State of Things.

• CCM Summer Programs: Art of the Piano Guest Artist Recitals•

Yoshikazu Nagai and Awadagin Pratt, piano

Praised by audiences and critics alike for his fresh interpretations and dramatic presentation style, pianist Yoshikazu Nagai has performed as soloist and chamber musician internationally in such venues as the Shanghai Concert Hall in China, National Recital Hall in Taiwan, Carnegie Recital Hall in New York, Kennedy Center's Terrace Theatre and The National Gallery. In addition, he is a frequent soloist with orchestras throughout the U.S. and his performances have been broadcast on National Public Radio's Performance Today, RAI (Italian National TV), and Hong Kong National Radio amongst others. For this recital, he will be joined by CCM Artist-in-Residence and Art of the Piano Artistic Director Awadagin Pratt.
