CCM Announces Ariel Quartet 2012-13 Concert Series

By:

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) will present the world-renowned Ariel String Quartet as part of its 2012-13 concert season, with an inaugural concert scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the intimate Robert J. Werner Recital Hall.

Characterized by its youth, brilliant playing and soulful interpretations, the Ariel Quartet has quickly earned a glowing international reputation. Previously the resident ensemble in the New England Conservatory’s prestigious Professional String Quartet Training Program, the Quartet recently celebrated its tenth anniversary and was named quartet-in-residence at CCM in early 2012. Winners of the Fischoff Grand Prize, the ensemble first started playing together as youths in Israel and has been performing around the world since.

Described by the Washington Post as “crank[ing] out virtuosity by the bucketful and passion by the yard,” the Quartet’s 2012-13 season will feature works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Britten, as well as collaborations with other CCM faculty artists and CCM composer Joel Hoffman.

All performances will be held on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. in the Robert J. Werner Recital Hall in CCM Village. Concert dates for the 2012-13 academic year are Sept. 11, Dec. 4, Jan. 15 and April 9.
