Walkabout Theatre Announces New Artistic Director

Kristan Schmidt, founder and former Artistic Director of Walkabout Theater is thrilled to announce that Carron Little is taking over as Artistic Director of Walkabout Theatre. Little brings a solid and consistent artistic background to the leadership of 11 year old, site-specific new work incubator and producer.

Kristan Schmidt says, "Carron Little has an amazing inventiveness and passion for exploring ways to create and present new stories for live audiences. I look forward to being part of the new theatrical surprises that Ms. Little and Walkabout Theater bring to Chicago audiences. In celebration of Ms. Little's new leadership, Walkabout is presenting two new creations this summer/fall."

Ms. Little says, "'I am thrilled to be working as Artistic Director of Walkabout Theater Company and am very excited about the program we have created for this season. A site - specific performance in a house in Pilsen and a whole series of twelve unexpected encounters throughout the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods. It is a huge honor to be working with so many talented directors, writers and performers in Walkabout and I look forward to creating lots of magical experiences for Chicago audiences. Having produced situational films and performances over the years it is an uncanny fit and fabulous to work with a group of people who cross multiple performance disciplines."

Carron Little was artist in resident for the British Arts Council from 2000-2001. Over the past ten years she has performed with the Art Not War Collective and the Red Velvet Curtain Club in London U.K in site -specific venues. Carron received her undergraduate degree from Goldsmiths' College, London University and her MFA from SAIC. Since returning to Chicago in 2009 she wrote and acted with Tour Guides directed by Coya Paz, organized by Chicago Literary Guild Complex, Colloboraction and has devised several solo and group works performing throughout the city. Most recently working on Chemical Queens for Food & Performance at Defibrillator. She currently writes for Our Urban Times, is on the Arts Committee for Wicker Park/ Bucktown and has recently joined Walkabout Theater Company as Artistic Director.
