Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre Extends A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE ANDREWS SISTERS, Now Through 8/31
Theo Ubique's hit summer cabaret, A Musical Tribute to the Andrews Sisters, has added a month of performances in August following the complete sellout of all its July dates. The schedule continues with performances Thursday through Sunday evenings (though there will be no shows Friday, August 15 through Sunday, August 17), plus Wednesday evening performances beginning August 13. A complete schedule of performances is listed below.
The show continues Theo Ubique's tradition of celebrating the Great American Songbook, but rather than focusing on the work of a single songwriter or composer-lyricist team, this summer's show honors those superstar singers of the World War II and post-war eras, the Andrews Sisters and the great American songs they popularized.During the war, Patty, Maxene and LaVerne Andrews charmed soldiers through their USO tours, winning a following that continued after the war as the sisters entertained the returned veterans through concerts, recordings, TV and movies. The group popularized many songs still beloved today, like "In the Mood," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," and "Nice Work if You Can Get It." They also recorded songs by some of the greatest American songwriters, including Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer and George and Ira Gershwin.
For Theo Ubique's show, the Andrews' close three-part harmonies are sung by Casi Maggio, Sarah Larson and Jordan Yentz, three young performers who have been making their mark on the Chicago musical theater scene. Casi Maggio was Jeff-nominated for her Kate Monster in Night Blue's Avenue Q. Sarah Larson appeared in Theo Ubique'sPassion, and Jordan Yentz has appeared in Pal Joey for Porchlight Music Theatre as well as Man of La Mancha and Camelot for Light Opera Works. They'll be joined by a male singer, as the Andrews Sisters often were. Will Lucas, a sensation in last summer's A Cole Porter Songbook at Theo will fill in for all the men who joined the sisters on stage.Entree: Chipped beef (or seitan) and gravy. Thinly sliced flank steak seasoned and sautéed in rich gravy served over toasted sourdough paired with herb sautéed vegetable medley.
Dessert: 1940s Chocolate cream pie with fresh whipped cream LISTING INFO A MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THE ANDREWS SISTERS
