Theater Wit Presents HAIKU HOOTENANNY, 5/21

Theater Wit today announced premiere benefit of the season, the Haiku Hootenanny, Monday, May 21 from 7 to 10 pm, celebrating nine years of theater and the second year of Chicago-style storefront experience. Located in the heart of Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood at 1229 W. Belmont Avenue, Theater Wit will be transformed into "a place of whoopin' and hollerin' poetry, bluegrass music, theater disasters and much more. Oh, much more."

First, original poems written by well-known artists and celebrities will be paired for auctioning with opportunities to do or own something fun, including restaurant gift certificates, hotel stays, sports tickets, original art, massages and more.

Wondering who might have contributed to Wit's collection of original Haikus? We're not telling, but here are a few riddles to get you thinking:

1. She is an Emmy-award winning, Oscar-nominated comedian and actress from Plainfield, IL.

2. He is an acclaimed documentary host and producer, network and major market new anchor, and multimedia Production Company president.

3. He is a New York Times bestselling author and world's most legendary Pick-Up Artist.

4. She is a Jeff Award-winning actress, Steppenwolf ensemble member, and cast member of a popular sitcom.

Also on tap: on-the-spot personalized Haikus by Greg Allen, founding director at The Neo-Futurists, flash mob line dancing, a photo booth to document this unforgettable evening and the return of Theatrical Disaster Standup, featuring members of Chicago's performance community recounting their true stories of on-stage mishaps and disasters.

Specialty beverages served one-night-only include The Haiku (a Manhattan-like cocktail with a secret ingredient), Pear Sake-tinis, The Lunch Bucket (don't ask), and cool refreshing beer generously donated by Goose Island Beer Company.
