The Sound to Present World Premiere Play FOR ANNIE
The Sound will present the world premiere play For Annie, written by Beth Hyland and directed by Rebecca Willingham.
The company's second production centers around Annie Lambert, who was murdered in the middle of her senior year at SUNY Onondaga. Her sisters of the BTA sorority have decided to memorialize her the best way they know how: by putting on a play. For Annie uses Greek chorus, pop music, and a whole lot of glitter to explore grief, guilt, sisterhood, and what it means to remember.
The cast features Hannah Sawicki, Ella Pennington, Kaye Rodney, Georgi McCauley, Charlotte Thomas, Natalie Joyce Smith, C. Jaye Miller, Claire Orzel, Erin O'Shea, Daniel Shtivelberg, and Nick Day.
The creative team includes Kasey Trouba (production stage manager), Greg Culley (scenic design), Ben Zeman (sound design), Jericka Hucke (costume design), Kim Green (choreography), and Anna Joaquin (assistant stage manager).
"Intimate partner violence is an epidemic in our country and across the globe, but it's incredibly difficult to talk about," said director Rebecca Willingham about the play. "Beth's take on this subject is distinctive: youthful, lively, and full of laughter, heart, and music. Producing a play on this topic with a young, talented cast felt urgent and timely."
For Annie will run at The Edge Theatre at 5451 N. Broadway from August 26th to September 4th. Performances run Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Opening night is Friday, August 26th at 8pm. Tickets are $10, and are available through The Sound's website at thesoundchicago.com and at forannie.brownpapertickets.com.
Formed in 2015, The Sound is dedicated to producing imaginative, genre-bending new plays and musicals. For more information, visit thesoundchicago.com.
