Strawdog Theatre announces "Play Rites!," a free series of interactive conversations, visual displays and events designed around the award-winning theatre company's productions. The first in this season's "Play Rites" is Monday, March 5 at 6 p.m. in Hugen Hall at Strawdog Theatre, 3829 North Broadway Street featuring Bill Savage.
Bill Savage, writer, senior lecturer at Northwestern University and a popular public speaker, was recently profiled in Chicago Magazineand will moderate the topic "American Criminals," a conversation about the influence of Depression-era gangsters, mavericks and outlaws in history, pop culture and Chicago.
The event, along with a lobby installation created by dramaturg Gina Di Salvo, complements Strawdog's current production, The Petrified Forest. The event is free to the public and runs about one hour. Refreshments will be served. For more details about "Play Rites!" go to www.strawdog.org.
Strawdog Theatre Company's production of Robert E. Sherwood's The Petrified Forest, directed by Shade Murray, runs February 23 – March 31, 2012 at the Strawdog Theatre, 3829 North Broadway Street. The performance schedule is Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. Preview performance tickets are $15 with performances Thursday, Feb. 23 and Friday, Feb, 24 at 8 p.m. There is a benefit performance, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m., $50 tickets include access to post-performance reception. Opening/Press Night is Sunday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. Tickets are $28 with group, senior and student discounts available. Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m. is an industry performance where available tickets are $10 for people presenting resumes or headshots.
