Remy Bumppo Theatre Company Announces 2019-2020 Season

By:

Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, in its 23rd season, will present three plays ranging from a world premiere adaptation of a beloved literary classic, a new production of a groundbreaking story about female empowerment, all the way to a Chicago premiere of a new play about the relationship between two iconic Americans.

Producing Artistic Director Nick Sandys speaks to the exciting and diverse lineup of the upcoming season: "It feels more than fitting as we move into 2020 for Remy Bumppo to be telling these complex stories about strong, independent women leading the charge for change. I am proud that we are producing a season that feels right on mission and yet also feels revolutionary, three important stories leaping out of the past in fresh interpretations that feel astonishingly current."

From August 29 through October 5, 2019, Remy Bumppo will be mounting their first commissioned work, HOWARDS END by E.M. Forster. Adapted for the stage by Chicago playwright Douglas Post, this world premiere of the beloved novel will tell the story of three very different families whose lives intertwine at the dawn of a fast-changing 20th century. Taking on the direction of this new adaptation is Producing Artistic Director Nick Sandys and Remy Bumppo Core Ensemble Member Eliza Stoughton will be featured as Margaret Schlegel.

Whip-smart, cracklingly funny, and ultimately deeply moving, TOP GIRLS returns to the Remy Bumppo stage January 16 through February 22, 2020 in a new revival. Directed by guest artist Keira Fromm and featuring Core Ensemble Members Annabel Armour and Linda Gillum, Caryl Churchill's groundbreaker brilliantly debates questions about gender conformity and the balancing act of career and family.

Remy Bumppo's 23rd season will conclude with THE AGITATORS by Mat Smart, performing April 30 through June 6, 2020. Smart's fiery script follows the tempestuous yet enduring 45-year friendship of Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony as they shape the course of American history. Taking on the roles of these two famous Americans are Remy Bumppo Core Ensemble Member Eliza Stoughton and guest artist and Steppenwolf Ensemble member James Vincent Meredith.

All productions in Remy Bumppo Theatre Company's 2019-2020 season will be performed at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Avenue in Chicago. Visit RemyBumppo.org for more information on subscription and single ticket sales.
