Red Theater Adds TRUE WEST by Sam Shepard to Sixth Season

To honor the work of deceased playwright Sam Shepard, Red Theater Chicago will add to their sixth season: TRUE WEST by Sam Shepard, directed by Aaron Sawyer. Currently appearing as a recurring character on Lena Waithe's new Showtime Series, The Chi - Mickey O'Sullivan will portRay Lee. Jeff Kurysz will play the role of Austin after appearing in The Goodman Theatre's production of Support Group For Men.

Performances will run TBD in September, 2018

THE PEOPLE

Mickey O'Sullivan^ (Lee) is a member of Red Theater Chicago. He's previously appeared in Three Soldier (for Sisters) by Aaron Sawyer with Red Theater, and you may have seen Mickey on various stages around the country. On the Chicago stage: Red Theater Chicago (THE ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD DEITY), Comrades (DYING CITY) Strawdog Theatre (DOA), Oracle Theatre (NO BEAST SO FIERCE), American Theatre Company (THE HUMANS, HAIR, THE ROYALE, MERCY STRAIN), & Cold Basement Dramatics (Henry Moore IS MELTING). Film/TV credits: Mick currently is working as a recurring character on Showtime's upcoming series THE CHI by Lena Waithe, just wrapped on Rupert Wyatt's highly anticipated sci-fi thriller, CAPTIVE STATE scheduled for release August 2018, and recently appeared on NBC's Chicago PD & Fox's APB. O'Sullivan also has various projects currently on the independent film festival circuit and is proud to be represented by the unrivaled women of Shirley Hamilton Talent Inc - Headshots, Resume, & Reel Footage

Jeff Kurysz^ (Austin) is a member of Red Theater Chicago and will play Austin after a role in SUPPORT GROUP FOR MEN at The Goodman Theatre. Jeff has previously appeared in RED HAMLET, YEAR OF THE ROOSTER, and R+J: THE VINEYARD with Red Theater Chicago. Jeff graduated with his BA from Illinois State University and is very active in the Chicago theater world. He is represented by Grossman & Jack Talent

*David Cerda* (Saul) is the co-founder and Artistic Director of HIAH Productions. Recent credits include The Golden Girls: The Lost Episodes. David is also the resident playwright. Cerda has written SuperPussy Vixens, Go Faster! Kill!, SCARRIE- The Musical, Rudolph the Red-Hosed Reindeer (1997-2014), and more. His plays have been produced throughout the country by discriminating camp aficionados. Cerda has worked around Chicago with A Red Orchid Theater, The New Colony, Corn Productions in The Bad Seed- The Musical, The Paper Machete , a live magazine show, Mookie Jam, Live Bait's Fillet of Solo Festival, The Fresh Squeezed Series and the One Minute Play Festival at Victory Garden Theater. He lives in Chicago with Christopher, his main man of 18 years and is determined to remain the favorite uncle to 11 nephews and nieces.

Aaron Sawyer^ (Director) is the Founder and Artistic Director of Red Theater Chicago which formed collectives in Chicago, Lincoln, Omaha, Tucson, and Purchase, NY. As a playwright top Chicago credits include RED HAMLET and the bilingual Deaf/Hearing production of R+J: THE VINEYARD, heralded as a Top Ten Chicago Play of 2016 (Chicago Theater Beat). Aaron's directing credits include the Chicago premieres of Bertolt Brecht's unfinished musical SCHWEYK IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR and TASTE by Benjamin Brand (Jeff Recommended). The Chicago Reader named Aaron and Red Theater runners up in their 2016 "Best of Chicago List" for Best Stage Director and Best New Theater Company respectively.
