Legendary soprano Kiri Te Kanawa returns to Ravinia Festival in a rare intimate Martin Theatre recital at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18. This performance also features director of the Steans Music Institute vocal program Brian Zeger on piano. The program includes works by Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Handel, Liszt, Strauss, Rachmaninoff, Ginastera, Guastavino and Canteloube.

Te Kanawa, a New Zealand native who has headlined in opera houses and symphony halls around the world for the past three decades, made international television history by singing at the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer. Created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1982, she was inducted into the Order of Australia in 1990 and on the 1995 Queen's Birthday Honours List, Te Kanawa was awarded the prestigious Order of New Zealand. At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, Dame Kiri will conduct a Steans Music Institute master class focusing on Mozart opera arias in

Bennett • Gordon Hall that is free and open to the public.
Virtuoso cellist Yo-Yo Ma returns to the festival at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, bringing with him the Silk Road Ensemble to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ma's world-famous Silk Road Project. The Project explores the visual, narrative and cultural traditions from the countries along the historic trade route. This concert will feature a live video screen on the lawn. The night also features a special lawn ticket and dining package entitled "Picnic in the Park" for $51.

Timeless rock group Crosby, Stills and Nash makes its much anticipated Ravinia debut at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22.
