Christopher Martin, principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 11 years, has resigned his position with the Orchestra, effective February 15, 2017, in order to accept the position of principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic.

Martin began his tenure as the CSO's principal trumpet in 2005, appointed by then-music director Daniel Barenboim. Martin occupied the CSO's endowed Adolph Herseth Principal Trumpet Chair.

CSOA President Jeff Alexander said "Since joining the Chicago Symphony, Chris has made an extraordinary contribution to the artistry and musicianship of the Orchestra. We wish him well as he begins the next chapter of his career with the New York Philharmonic."

Martin has appeared numerous times as soloist with the Orchestra including October 2014 performances of Panufnik's Concerto in modo antico under the baton of Riccardo Muti in Orchestra Hall and on tour to Warsaw, Poland.
