Pivot Arts Presents The World Premiere of THE MEMORY TOUR

By:

Pivot Arts is pleased to announce the world premiere of THE MEMORY TOUR, a site-specific performance experience structured as a tour in Chicago's Edgewater and Uptown neighborhoods. Audience members take a journey through the world of memory with a unique blend of live performances, an interactive app, videotaped interviews of memories, and more. Conceived by Julieanne Ehre and Tanya Palmer and directed by Julieanne Ehre.

THE MEMORY TOUR, includes written works by Isaac Gomez, Brett Neveu and Tanya Palmer. From an early childhood memory to a first romance, participants will be immersed in world of others people's memories - and through devised moments, be prompted to connect with their own pasts.

Tour dates are Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am and 2 pm from September 10 - October 9, 2016. THE MEMORY TOUR will begin at 5252 N. Broadway Ave. (near Broadway and Berwyn), where Audience members will be greeted by a Memory Docent (played by actors). The Docents will lead small groups through a 90-minute tour of memory, both indoors and outdoors. Audience members should bring a smart phone and headphones - and download the free app VAMONDE. Tickets, priced at $22, are currently on-sale at pivot.arts.org/events. The press openings are Saturday, September 10 at 11 am & 2 pm andSunday, September 11 at 11 am & 2 pm.

The MEMORY TOUR will feature Ann James, Sharon Lanza, Ashlyn Lozano, Brandon Rivera, Kate Smith and Alejandro Tey.

In 2015, Pivot Arts created a "Memory Bank," an interactive gallery space where people were interviewed about their memories and had the opportunity to "deposit" a memory on an index card and leave it as part of the installation. Co-collaborators, Julieanne Ehre and Tanya Palmer gathered these memories and videotaped interviews and incorporated them as part of the final tour.

"It's unsettling that our memories and our past shape who we are, yet we cannot recall most of our earliest experiences," comments Director Julieanne Ehre. "The idea for the tour grew out of an Emory University study which showed children interviewed at age five remembered quite a bit of their lives, but a few years later, the same children had lost most of their earliest memories. Through The Memory Tour, audiences have the opportunity to reflect on how memory informs their identity - even when they can't remember. Despite our constant attempts to preserve the past, our collective histories remain an arena of elusive realities."

The MEMORY TOUR production team includes Jo Cattell (associate director), Connor Ciesil (Sound Designer), Sally Schulze (video), Rachel Sypniewski (costume designer) and Matthew York (set designer).
