Northwestern Dance Program Presents MOBILE LANDSCAPES, 11/18-20

By:

"Mobile Landscapes" -- a three-day dance program featuring the original works of eight Northwestern University student choreographers -- will take place on the Evanston campus Nov. 18, 19 and 20.

The fall dance concert showcases the work of student choreographers who have been selected by a panel of peers and dance faculty to create original, artistically mature work in two months' time.

Open to the public, "Mobile Landscapes" will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18; 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19; and 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, in the Ballroom Studio of the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, 10 Arts Circle Drive, on Northwestern's Evanston campus.

The New Movement Project is a student group that works closely with the School of Communication's dance program to produce student works and host workshops and residencies with local and national artists.

This year's choreographers include sophomores Parker Murphy and Sophia Rafiqi, juniors Britt Banaszynski, Meg Morrissey and Aly Quigley and seniors Cresence Birder, Juli Farley and Michelle Jacobs. Their original work will be performed by an ensemble of 26 student dancers.

Among the concert highlight's are Banaszynski's work titled, "This is My Little Green Monster," showcases the power and grace of an ensemble in motion as they are forced to make complex decisions as one, unified, idiosyncratic organism.

Birder's whimsical "Shell Pasta and Other Entities" is a dance theater piece about fish, pasta, a journey to some of the quirkiest places imaginable and a few surprises.

And Murphy's "Doors open on the left" embodies the idea that disrupting the pattern of everyday life by seeing and experiencing the people and objects around us can expose a whole new world.

Bleacher-style seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. General admission is $10 for the public and $5 for full-time students with valid IDs. Tickets are available through the Theatre and Interpretation Center Box Office at (847) 491-7282 or by visiting www.tic.northwestern.edu. Tickets also be sold at the door prior to each performance.
