New Colony to Present OKAY CUPID, 3/28-29

By:
The New Colony will introduce a new sidestage series to its 2013-14 season: OKAY CUPID created by Shawn Bowers, curated by Shawn Bowers and Sarah Gitenstein, playing March 28 and 29 at Dank Haus, 4740 N. Western Ave. in Chicago. Tickets are free and will be available for reservation starting Monday, March 3 at www.thenewcolony.org.

Chicago comedian Shawn Bowers (Adapt Theatre Productions' The Bear) has spent years pretending to be women on the web's most popular free dating site. OKAY CUPID is the terrifying result: a multimedia showcase of actual conversations, text messages, voicemails and photos from his time undercover, along with new experiments and online dating tales from our team of special correspondents.

Originally produced in November 2012 at the Lincoln Loft, OKAY CUPID will be further developed into a bi-monthly exploration into the world of online dating. "I'm so glad to be working on OKAY CUPID with Shawn Bowers," comments Associate Artistic Director Sarah Gitenstein. "When I saw the original Okcupid Project, I was blown away by its ingenuity and humor. Shawn is an exceptionally talented writer and performer. He has a unique voice, and a wonderful talent for delving deeper into technologies we take for granted, such as online dating. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help Shawn shape his vision, and explore the darker complexities of digital, modern dating." Shawn Bowers adds "I'm anxious to explore other corners of the Internet in the coming months as well. OKAY CUPID is just the tip of a very large, horny iceberg."
