MCL Chicago to Revive CHICAGO DOOWOP DREAMS

By: Apr. 01, 2016

MCL Chicago Artistic Director Alex Garday is proud to revive the homegrown hit "Chicago DooWop Dreams" (formerly "Oh What A Night") for a six performance engagement, May 14 -29, 2016. The production returns to MCL Chicago to captivate old and new audiences after a wildly successful tour at the Leela Arts Center in Des Plaines, Ill. in February. All performances play at MCL Chicago, 3110 N. Sheffield Ave. and are BYOB. G eneral tickets for the production are $20 and $15 for students and available via cash or credit at the door or online at M CLChicago.com. The show's estimated running time is 75 minutes.

"This dynamic show has the perfect blend of quick wit, beautiful voices and nostalgia for the 'good ol days' when music made us feel something," says Garday. "We've added new characters and songs that really flesh out the world of these local Chicago Boys on their rise to stardom. Every night the cast, band and crew pay homage to the jukebox musical and all the artists who defined a generation."

From Connie's Pizza on the South Side of Chicago to the biggest stages in the world, join four Chicago Boys on their journey to fame and back. On the road to success they meet smarmy producers, moneyhungry managers, an aging diva and even "Roy Orbeson." Through the joys and struggles of a life on tour, the Chicago Boys have to stick together to make it to the top.

MCL Chicago honors the jukebox musical ("Jersey Boys", "Mamma Mia!", "That Thing You Do") with this production. This hybrid musical weaves together improvised premieres, a cappella covers, and original songs that are soontobe American standards all while being accompanied by a four piece band.

Four men. Four mics. Fourpartharmony.
