After several years of arbitration, Entertainment Events, Inc., producer of the Off-Broadway and international smash hit comedy Late Nite Catechism, has prevailed on its claims against Vicki Quade, one of the play's authors. The arbitrator concluded that Quade breached her contract with EEI, infringed EEI's copyright, and owes EEI in excess of $840,000 in damages.
In 1995, Quade and her co-author (Maripat Donovan*) licensed to EEI the exclusive productions rights for Late Nite Catechism throughout the world. Quade retained the limited right to produce the play only within a 50 mile radius of Chicago. The arbitrator held that Quade repeatedly breached her contract and infringed EEI's copyright by producing Late Nite Catechism outside of the Chicago area. The arbitrator further held that Quade breached her contract with EEI and infringed EEI's copyright by producing outside of Chicago several sequels that she has written (Put the Nuns in Charge!, Sunday School Cinema, and Saints & Sinners). Under the ruling, only EEI can produce Late Nite Catechism outside of the Chicago area. In addition, EEI is authorized to produce throughout the world several sequels written by Maripat Donovan, including Sister Strikes Again: Late Nite Catechism 2, 'Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3, and Sister's Christmas Catechism - The Mystery of the Magi's Gold.
