Denise La Grassa Free Youth Jazz Songwriting Workshop And Show Announced

Chicagoland jazz singer and pianist Denise La Grassa presents a free afternoon youth songwriting workshop followed by a free evening performance of original music. La Grassa's selections include songs co-written by guitarist John Kregor, which explore relationships in contemporary culture and societal issues. At this show, new songs include Sunshine in the Toxic Ballroom andTwinkle Eyes, along withI've Had It With The Blues, Color Is The Difference, Spinning Jenny, Vain Game, and The Blues Ain't A Color.

Saturday, August 18, 2018, 2 - 4 p.m.The FREE Jazz Playformance Workshop invites kids aged 8-13 to play musical games about jazz rhythms, melody word-play and story. Musical themes and songs emerge through these interactive games designed to tap into creative thoughts and ideas, then are crafted into songs and sketches through jazz-style improvisation games. The workshop culminates in a performance for family and friends. Students should be prepared to sing and perform, and can bring their own musical instruments if available.
