To expand the reach of its 20th anniversary celebration nationwide and engage more audiences outside Chicago, The Dance COLEctive (TDC), under the direction of award-winning choreographer, performer and teacher Margi Cole, has announced it will stream the closing night performance of its upcoming concert program "Revelry/20 Years" live with multiple cameras Sunday, March 20 at 7 p.m. free via its website, dancecolective.com. TDC opened this concert program, which features two premieres, works by current and former company members and reconstructed repertory by alumni and special guests, live March 11-13 and continues performances March 18-20 at 7 p.m. at Links Hall at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave., Chicago.

"There are many reasons I'm interested in the idea of streaming a live performance," explained Cole. "I want to share my work with students, collaborators and artists I have relationships with outside Chicago. In fact, we're encouraging people in other states to organize viewing parties, which we'll report on via social media (facebook.com/DanceCOLEctive/?fref=ts and @DanceCOLEctive on Twitter). When we did this last season, more than 400 people encompassing more than 6,000 streaming minutes viewed the performance-primarily from the U.S., but also the UK, Singapore, Portugal, Mexico and Kuwait.

"For those in Chicago, it offers another point of view on the live performance, perhaps even from backstage. I encourage Chicagoans to come to Links to experience the live version, then watch it streaming and compare."

Cole and TDC are again working with Justin Kulovsek of Nesek Digital on streaming the live performance. Nesek Digital has helped many nonprofits with video streaming, from Lorin Maazel's Castleton Festival to the Museum of Broadcast Communications.

Revelry/20 Years-the program live and streaming
The program features two premieres: threadwork, a TDC-commissioned solo for Cole created by Margaret Jenkins, and The Swell by Cole, exploring her interest in bravery. Former TDC dancer Madelyn Doyle revives a work she created for TDC, as does current dancer Shannon Edwards: Doyle's Shadowless explores the necessity of good and evil to co-exist, and Edwards' There There focuses on finding comfort during times of inner conflict. Doyle has also helped stage a revised excerpt of Cole's 2014 TDC premiere Creative Candor on her Repertory Dance Ensemble students from Riverside Brookfield High School, which they will perform during the second weekend of the concert series, including during the live-streamed performance.

The Dance COLEctive's 20th anniversary concert "Revelry/20 Years" continues March 18-20 at 7 p.m. at Links Hall at Constellation, 3111 N. Western Ave., Chicago. The Dance COLEctive
Artistic Director Margi Cole formed The Dance COLEctive in 1996 to challenge assumptions about how dance is presented, through the use of cutting-edge choreography, innovative collaborations and inspired, creative, site-specific works. TDC's vision is to be one of Chicago's premier dance ensembles, recognized for its compelling, socially relevant and inspiring choreography. In fulfilling its mission and vision, TDC embraces collaboration as a core element of its creative process; values the athleticism, grace, power and strength of its dancers; and nurtures and promotes the creativity of emerging artists. TDC performs at traditional venues and creates site-specific work as part of its annual repertoire. The company also conducts residencies annually, including performances, workshops, master classes and lecture demonstrations.

Cole has received recognition for her contribution to the field of modern dance through awards including the Illinois Arts Council's Individual Artist Fellowship, a 2015 Individual Arts Program Creative Project Grant from the City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Grants Department a Chicago Dancemakers Forum grant and the American Marshall Memorial Fellowship, which selects leaders in their respective fields to represent the United States on a month-long tour of European countries.
